Will the MPM programme be tailored based on my child’s age? Before the commencement of your child’s first class, we have a free MPM assessment to peg your child at the right level so that they can start learning based on their competencies rather than their age level.
-
What benefits does MPM Parkway being part of KEC bring?Being part of KEC means that all our passionate MPM Parkway teachers are dedicated not only to supporting every child's academic growth but also their social-emotional growth in character building and moral development through constant guidance.
-
Is there a free trial class? We have a free assessment before registration which uses materials identical to the ones in our classes and the children can explore and see if they like the questions and format.
-
Is your programme aligned with the MOE syllabus? The MPM programme originates from Taiwan and has been in Singapore for more than a decade. All of our materials are fully adapted and aligned to the MOE syllabus.
-
How is your programme different from other Math centres?Unlike other centres that teach at the whiteboard in front of a whole class, our centre provides individualised materials for students to complete during class. This creates a very independent learning model whereby students first attempt questions on their own and our teachers will walk around to facilitate the explanation of any queries or difficult concepts. Our teachers are trained to use the zone of proximal development theory and primarily help students by first providing a minimal level of support through the use of questions and slowly increasing the support required until the student fully understands the concept. This builds on the student’s creative and logical thinking processes and teaches them to attempt questions independently with confidence.
-
What is the earliest age my child can enter the programme? We have had children as young as 4 years old starting the MPM curriculum, but the general criteria is if a child is capable of writing their name and digits from 0-9 (including basic counting). Not to worry if your child needs a bit more time to learn, we also have an MPM Pre-K series and our Jelic programme just for them!
-
What is the duration of an MPM lesson and how often are they held?MPM lessons are conducted once a week and each session lasts 2hrs. A full list of our available time slots can be found under the SCHEDULE tab.
-
My child is from an international school. Can he/she also join? Our materials are in accordance with the MOE syllabus but we also have plenty of international school students join us. We are open to discussions with parents regarding their child’s differing syllabus but most of our students from international schools adjust very well to our programme after the initial assessment.
-
What is the ideal entry age for MPM Parkway? The best years to start at MPM Parkway are between K1 and P2. However, we still encourage parents with children of other ages up to P6 to consider joining us as we strive to help them reach their fullest potential.
-
What if my child improves or has growth spurts in their knowledge?Teachers continually monitor every child’s learning progress weekly and will consider a re-assessment if any child is seen to be able to progress beyond his or her work.
-
What if my child cannot focus in class or has other needs?MPM Parkway teachers are passionate and trained to support children regardless of their needs in mainstream schools. If a child is seen to still need further support after trying our programme, discussions can be arranged with the parents to explore further options such as extra classes.
-
Is there any homework for the Jelic programme? There is no homework but there are stickers used in the worksheets done in class that can be reused to practise more at home on certain concepts. Once students are introduced to the Pre-K booklets, there will be a homework component to let them practise their writing.
-
What is the duration of a JELIC lesson and how often are they held?Jelic lessons are conducted once a week and each session lasts between 1hr to 1hr 15mins. A full list of our available time slots can be found under the SCHEDULE tab.
-
Is there a free Jelic trial class?Yes, we have a free trial class which will take about 30 minutes and will help to peg your child at the right level for them!
-
What is the Jelic programme about? It is a whole-brain development programme that teaches younger children through the use of constructive play. Overall, it is a school preparation programme to help them prepare for formal classes.
-
What is the difference between the Jelic and MPM programmes? The main differentiating factor between whether a child is more suited for the Jelic or MPM programme is the ability to write and do basic counting (e.g. writing their name and the digits 0-9). If they are able to do basic writing, the MPM programme would be more conducive for them.
-
Does the Jelic programme teach students how to start writing?Yes, we slowly introduce and alternate our Pre-K book series together with the Jelic activities every other week in order to familiarise the children with the writing of digits as well as other colouring and simple logical reasoning questions.
-
My child is only 2 years old, can he/she join?A trial lesson can be conducted to determine if your child is suitable for the Jelic programme. The only requirement for the lessons is the ability for the child to be able to sit down and take basic instruction from our teachers.
-
Can my child transition to the MPM programme after the Jelic programme?Yes, the teacher-in-charge will determine when a child is suitable to transition to the MPM programme and will first discuss with parents about the changes to expect.
-
Is the LE Learning Centre only for children who are weak in maths? At Love Empowered, we believe that every child has differing needs and strengths. The programme is catered to support children who do not benefit from bigger group settings and need more support in smaller groups.
-
Why is Love Empowered a co-operative? What is a co-operative?A co-operative is a regulated social enterprise under the Registry of Co-operative Societies by the Ministry of Culture, Community & Youth (MCCY) and we are audited every year. We, Love Empowered, chose to register as a co-operative to ensure that the maximum amount of benefit is provided to all members and children with the proper checks and balances in place.
-
If my child is not in a mainstream school, can I still sign them up for Love Empowered?Love Empowered aims to support children regardless of needs and the LE Learning Centre is targeted primarily at children in mainstream schools. Inversely, our Family Empowered Programme provides parents with support regardless of the severity of their children’s needs.
